국문초록

작년 말 『붓다와 다윈이 만난다면』이라는 책이 서울대학교 출판문화원에서 출간되었다. 생명존중의 불교와 근대생명론의 바탕을 이루고 있는 다윈의 진화론 사이의 접근을 시도한 것이다. 그동안 자연과학과 기독교의 만남이란 주제로 많은 신학자들과 과학자 사이에서 이루어진 내용에 비교할 때 턱없이 부족한 과학과 불교의 만남이라는 점에서 그 의미를 찾을 수도 있으나 공저자이자 책으로 묶는 일을 담당했던 입장에서 보다 강조할 수 있는 점은 다른 곳에 있다고 말할 수 있다.
